West Roxbury Saves Energy: This neighborhood organization encourages local residents to save energy and fought the West Roxbury pipeline.
Boston Clean Energy Coalition: A Boston advocacy group that works to create an organizing space that accelerates efforts in Boston to transition to a clean, green economy.
Planet Southie: This all-volunteer organization is working for a greener and healthier South Boston.
GreeningRozzie: This community organization is working for a greener, more sustainable, and more cohesive Roslindale.
Back Bay Green Initiative: News about climate activism both citywide and in the Back Bay neighborhood.
Chelsea Creek Action Group Partnership: This grassroots organization seeks to reclaim the neglected and contaminated Chelsea Creek as an environmental, recreational, economic, and educational asset for the people of the region.
Codman Square NDC: Codman Square NDC’s Talbot Norfolk Triangle Eco-Innovation District is a comprehensive effort at neighborhood scale sustainability that marries green, transit-oriented development (TOD), renewable energy, water conservation, alternative energy, sustainable food systems, waste reduction, and climate preparedness through resilience. This first-of-its-kind project in the City of Boston is working in a 13 block section of Codman Square with 1300 residents––the Talbot Norfolk Triangle––using the LEED-ND rating system as an organizing principle.
Allston-Brighton CDC: One of the programs of this community development corporation seeks to conserve and sustain local natural resources as a way to improve the quality of life in Allston-Brighton.
Neighborhood of Affordable Housing(NOAH): An East Boston CDC that works on affordable housing, environmental justice, community planning, leadership development, and economic development.
Boston Student Advisory Council: A student-elected representative body for the City, working to identify and address important city issues impacting their fellow students, with a year-round campaign dedicated to climate justice.
Statewide and Regional Organizations
350 Massachusetts: Dedicated to building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. MA350 engages in online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions led by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350MA is convened and facilitated by Better Future Project.
Massachusetts Climate Action Network: Statewide information and links to other municipal-level climate action groups.
Green Justice Coalition: Linking environmentalists, labor unions, and social justice organizations to make sure the green wave lifts all boats.
Sierra Club MA: Founded by legendary conservationist John Muir in 1892, the Sierra Club is now the nation’s largest and most influential grassroots environmental organization; with three million members and supporters nationwide, and over 100,000 members and supporters in Massachusetts. Their successes range from protecting millions of acres of wilderness, to helping pass the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Endangered Species Act. More recently, they’ve made history by leading the charge to move away from the dirty fossil fuels that cause climate disruption and toward a clean energy economy.
StopNED/No Fracked gas in Mass: A community coalition that worked to prevent the Kinder Morgan Northeastern Energy Direct fracked gas pipeline project from being developed.
La Colaborativa: Providing resources and assistance to Latinx immigrants in Greater Boston to uplift their community to achieve greater survival, stability, and empowerment.
Massachusetts Power Forward: Believes the unprecedented threat we face is also an unprecedented opportunity to create clean energy jobs, develop sustainable neighborhoods, and clean up our air and water. With our state and federal governments considering multi-billion dollar investments in fossil fuels, now more than ever we need to lead a clean energy revolution from the ground up and show that we can get 100% of our energy from clean sources.
Alternatives for Community and Environment: A neighborhood based, environmental justice and transit-oriented development nonprofit in Boston. This BIPOC-led grassroots group organizes residents and coalitions to bring critical solutions like advocacy, organizing, legal and regulatory campaigns.
Neighbor to Neighbor: Striving to place people and the planet before profit, through campaigning for systematic changes to dismantle inequality, racism, and environmental damage in the Massachusetts government and economy.
National and International Efforts
350.org: An international effort to oppose new coal, oil and gas projects, take money out of the companies that are heating up the planet, and build 100% clean energy solutions that work for all.
Our Power Campaign: A coalition of over 35 community-based and movement support organizations uniting frontline communities to forge a scalable, and socio-economically just transition away from unsustainable energy towards local living economies to address the root causes of climate change.
Clean Water Action: Since their founding during the campaign to pass the landmark Clean Water Act in 1972, Clean Water Action has worked to win strong health and environmental protections by bringing issue expertise, solution-oriented thinking and people power to the table.
Mothers Out Front: Are mothers, grandmothers, and other caregivers coming together to make climate change an issue that our leaders can no longer ignore.
